Isekai anime has become the most common representation of the medium, with many of the latest shows in the current season of anime being within the isekai genre. Of course, this has made things more than a bit played out, especially given how repetitive isekai can be. Nevertheless, there are several examples of these sorts of shows that can be binge-watched ad nauseam, and many of the best of their kind.

✕ Remove Ads

Some of these shows simply pull off the isekai tropes and formula to a T, acting as the perfect anime comfort food. In other cases, they're subversions of what fans expect, and that's especially the case with old-school isekai. Regardless of where they fall within the spectrum, these anime take a genre that some have come to hate and showcase it at its best.

Updated on October 16, 2024 by Robbie Robinson: These days, isekai is easily one of the most popular anime genres. From bizarre reincarnations to blood-thirsty plots, there's something for every fan of anime. Now, just because an isekai is good, doesn't mean it's incredibly rewatchable. Whether that's because of plot twists or convoluted plots, not every fan wants to see something happen over and over again. As such, this list has been updated with the best isekai to rewatch as well as to get this article up to date with CBR's current formatting standards.

Full of fluff and an easy pace to follow, Campfire Cooking In Another World is the perfect isekai anime to rewatch over and over. It steps away from the hectic shenanigans of most isekai and focuses on the mundane in a not-so-mundane world. It's a fun watch with delicious looking dishes that aren't hard to recreate at home. The core story revolves around Tsuyoshi Mukoda, an ordinary Japanese citizen who is whisked away to a fantasy world mistakenly as one of three legendary heroes. Fans of isekai are used to the protagonists going to a fantasy world, not leaving one. In this reverse isekai, Satan finds himself down on his luck, stripped of his powers and trapped in the human world. With nothing to do while he bides his time, Satan takes on a human alias and begins working at the fast-food joint, MgRonald's. It's a hilarious subversion of plenty of isekai tropes. The hero actually becomes underpowered instead of leveling up to insane heights.

The Devil Is a Part-Timer shines with its humor and wacky antics, all of which are made more entertaining as the viewers watch Satan work like the common person. Something about this anime that makes it rewatchable is that it's actually rather grounded. The depiction of the workplace is oddly relatable for anyone who has actually worked in fast food. It's a hilariously entertaining story of Satan working with what he's got.

Checking the boxes of isekai, villainess, and yuri, I'm In Love With the Villainess follows Rei, as she awakens to find herself as the protagonist of her favorite dating sim. In the game, the only romance options available were the three princes. However, Rei has always had her sights set on the game's antagonist, Claire Francois. Claire is haughty, intelligent and prickly. Every time Rei pursues her, Claire is quick to put her down and insult her in any way possible.

On a surface level, it might not look like there's much more to this anime than a silly, low-stakes romance. Throughout the show, Claire begins to undergo some incredible growth. As viewers begin to see hints of a blush on her face, fans can't help but fall in love. In particular, it's Claire's transformation that makes this isekai worth rewatching. Being able to see how and when exactly she changes in regard to Rei is wildly entertaining. There's also growing political strife that fans will be able to see in the well-timed foreshadowing placed throughout.

12 No Game No Life Follows Siblings Into a Video Game

For Them, It's a Dream Come True

15 Most Rewatchable Isekai Anime (9)

Plenty of isekai center around the premise of a video game-style world, and that's exactly what No Game No Life is all about. Sora and Shiro are two shut-in siblings who spend their days dominating the online world of PVP games. Being undefeated and renowned, the two receive a mystery challenge from an otherworldly god. From there, the two are brought into another world where they must compete in strict-rule-bound games of high-stakes gambles.

With competitors such as SAO and Log Horizon, anime watchers who have never seen No Game No Life might be wondering why it's standout enough to watch. For one, it's a refreshing take on the video game isekai because its action doesn't revolve around the fantastical combat most often seen. It relies much more on the siblings' intellect and strategic skills. It's a story of NEETs determined to crush their opponents. On top of all of that, No Game No Life has a remarkable art-style with bright neon colors reminiscent of a Cyberpunk vibe.

11 The Rising of the Shield Hero Makes Up For Its Questionable Start

It Ends by Delivering Amazing Character Arcs

15 Most Rewatchable Isekai Anime (11)

The Rising of the Shield Hero had the unfortunate accident of pushing a lot of viewers away at its start. This is mostly due to the event that spitballs the hero down his main path. Four men, including the protagonist Naofumi Iwatani, are summoned to a different world to become the four Cardinal Heroes. Each hero is equipped with a unique weapon. Naofumi is granted the Legendary Shield, meaning the only thing he's good for is some outstanding defense.

Because of that, Naofumi goes through a period of time of being a rather closed-off protagonist. However, Rising of the Shield Hero ends up delivering an exciting adventure of growth and companionship. While an underdog-style hero isn't exactly uncommon in an isekai, Naofumi's role as support in combat makes for unique dynamics. There's exceptional character development and rather emotion-stirring moments that make this one of the most rewatchable isekai anime.

10 KonoSuba Is the Quintessential Isekai

An Isekai So Addicting, Viewers Won't Be Able to Look Away

Based on a light novel series by Natsume Akatsuki and Kurone Mishima, KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! is a great example of the isekai formula. It features a young man who, after a ridiculous death, is reincarnated into another world. There, he forms a troop alongside some lovely ladies as they try to defeat an evil Demon King. It's fairly stock stuff, but this is what makes it so easy to watch.

It's also notorious for being one of the funniest isekai around - the humor never gets stale.

Overlord is based on a gamer who, on the last night that his favorite online game will still have its servers active, finds himself stuck in the game itself. Renaming himself Ainz Ooal Gown and in the guise of a skeleton wizard, the main character also discovers that he's now incredibly powerful compared to everyone he faces. As his strength and renown increase, so does his sense of amorality.

Overlord perfectly encapsulates the idea of an isekai anime with an overpowered protagonist. Unlike most isekai in this vein, it's not necessarily a power fantasy. Instead, it showcases the dark turn that Ainz takes, all while still being fun. Thus, fans feel fine by going back and watching his development, with each overpowered victory becoming more enjoyable when watched in succession. 8 Inuyasha Is an Old-School Classic

An Isekai Before the Time of Isekai

15 Most Rewatchable Isekai Anime (17)

Inuyasha isn't a modern anime series, but it's definitely a classic. It follows a more old-school isekai trope by having someone from the modern day traveling back in time. Ending up in a feudal fantasy version of Japan, student Kagome finds herself surrounded by numerous demons and hybrids, namely the half-wolf Inuyasha. An icon on Toonami, the series was a huge part of many anime fans' childhoods.

Inuyasha tells an ongoing story, but a lot of its entries feel episodic in nature. For this reason, it's easy to go back and rewatch Inuyasha from any point, with only the brass tacks of certain developments needing to be known. With over 150 episodes, it's definitely made to be binged. Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon was an anime-exclusive sequel released from 2020 to 2022

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime was the beginning of another trend in isekai: ridiculous transformations. He goes on to learn how to shapeshift and regain his humanoid appearance, and in doing so, becomes something of a political figure in his new environment.

5 So I’m a Spider Follows an Unfortunate Outcast

Few People Would Want to Be Reincarnated As a Spider

15 Most Rewatchable Isekai Anime (24)

So I'm a Spider, So What? is another show where the main character has a less than luxurious new form in their next life, making her the opposite of overpowered. After a demon battle seemingly kills her entire class, an unassuming high school student is reborn in a new world as a somewhat large spider. Hunted by men and beasts alike, her new reality is a shocking contrast from that of her peers.

So I'm a Spider is a fun watch (or rewatch) because the odds are so firmly against the protagonist. She's not at all in an enviable state, yet tries to make the best of things by learning more about what she can do. 4 Tanya the Evil Is One of the Most Sadistic Isekai

A Little Girl Houses A Sinister Past-Life

15 Most Rewatchable Isekai Anime (26)

✕ Remove Ads

Many isekai anime are full of characters that have less than admirable traits. In most cases, these elements are overlooked, to the point where the hero is instead practically worshiped in spite of these flaws. That's not the case in The Saga of Tanya the Evil, where the series is blatant about its protagonist's morality. This honesty ultimately makes for a far more entertaining watch, especially after Tanya truly begins her moral descent.

This is why it's so easy to rewatch, as Tanya goes out of her way to survive while others die. It's a much more psychological isekai because of this, and it helps that it doesn't have the same generic medieval setting. Instead, it's based in an alternate version of World War I, which perfectly fits its harsh tone and nature. A second season of the Tanya the Evil anime was announced in 2021, but it's yet to be released.

3 Ascendance of a Bookworm Is a More Relaxing Isekai

15 Most Rewatchable Isekai Anime (28)

Ascendance of a Bookworm isn't an action-based series in the slightest, but it is one of the more unique isekai. Reincarnated as a small child in another world, she retains her memories from her previous life and sets out to publish her own books in a world that has few of them.

2 Uncle from Another World Is a Retro-Themed Reverse Isekai

It's As Much Fun As It Looks

15 Most Rewatchable Isekai Anime (30)

✕ Remove Ads

Unlike most isekai anime, Uncle from Another World began as a manga instead of a light novel series. It focused on a middle-aged man who awakens from a coma after several years. During this time, his consciousness was actually in an alternate world, and he retains many of his abilities after returning to his dimension. Of course, the thing he cares most about is catching up with his family and the state of video games, having slipped away when the Sega Dreamcast was released.

Uncle from Another World is a great show to go back to because of how well it upends the isekai format. It actually feels far more down to Earth and delves into nostalgia in an interesting way, making it more than just a fantasy series. Perhaps the biggest reason why fans should go back to watch, beyond its fun quality, is the fact that many sadly didn't give it the deserved chance it needed in 2022.
