Learning Resources Crocodile Hop Floor Game Review (2024)

My kids were lucky enough to get to try and review the Learning Resources Crocodile Hop Floor Game. I have to tell you they LOVE it! When I read the instructions, Crocodile Hop sounded like a really fun game for teaching your children their colors, shapes, and numbers. It is aimed at younger children from ages 3 – 7. My kids are 4 and 6 and they already know their colors, shapes, and numbers. Therefore, I thought it may not be as fun for them, but I was wrong. They had the best time!

Learning Resources Crocodile Hop Floor Game can be played several different ways according to the included activity guide. In fact, it is really several different floor games in one box. First we played with the color die and they worked their way across the floor mat (Colorful vinyl floor mat measures 100” L x 30” H). They had a great time rolling the dice (large inflatable cubes), hopping to the color, and announcing the color and shape or number they were on. They wanted to play again so we did.

Then I showed them that we could use the shape die instead so we played that way. My son got a little pouty about not winning the third game so while he sulked I had Sierra take the marker pieces and cover all the stars. My son couldn’t resist so he came and got marker pieces and covered all the triangles. So they can play this game alone or together and have a good time.I think Learning Resources Crocodile Hop Floor Game is marvelous and now that they have the hang of it, they can even play without me if I am not available. That is always a big plus!

Learning Resources Crocodile Hop Floor Game comes with a super-size floor mat that is irresistible and versatile for engaged learning and family fun. It helps gross motor skills and reinforces colors, shapes, numbers and counting. We love it and it has been a big hit at play dates too.

Crocodile Hop Instructions- Rules Of How To Play

How do you play the Crocodile hop game? Here are the detailed Crocodile Hop Floor Game instructions for two different ways to play. Each game has simple directions and hones skills such as number recognition and shape recognition.

Crossing the Creek with Colors

Number of players: 2–4 players or 2–4 teams
Game components: floor mat, large color cube, and large animal game markers (one animal marker for each player or each team)
No small parts.

Lay the game mat on the floor for all players to see. Each player (or small groups) chooses one animal game marker and places the game marker on Start.

Player 1 rolls the color cube and moves the game marker to the closest rock or log with that color. Player 2 rolls the cube and moves in the same way, always choosing the closest rock or log. When playing with teams, teammates take turns rolling the color cube and moving the team game marker across the creek. If a player rolls a crocodile, he or she gets “snapped,” loses a turn, and cannot move for that turn. When a player lands on a rock or log showing a number, the player can get another turn and roll again if he or she can identify the number.

Play continues until one player or team crosses the creek and lands in the grassy area on the other side of the mat. That player (or team) is the winner!

Crossing the Creek with Shapes

Number of players: 2–4 players or 2–4 teams
Game components: game mat, shape cube, 1 animal game marker for each player (team)

Play is the same as listed in Crossing the Creek with Colors except players use the shape cube for game play.

This floor game is a fun way to engage young children in active play. As a group game it is also great for developing social skills. This is one of those preK educational games that is sure to get a lot of use. It is kind of like a giant hopscotch board but even more educational.
